This morning I received notification that I platform that I tried and ended up not using was going to become unavailable.
They said that the data I created would be available for four months.
That’s a useful level of advanced notice; they are taking steps to prevent me from being at risk of losing the data.
While one could imagine stronger steps of making sure I could access forever and ever, the useful life of the type of data I would put on that platform is about 3 months.
I am grateful to them for their thought and care. Today’s gratitude and baby animal picture go out to the team members that took steps to assure we wouldn’t lose valuable things.
It’s as a startup company, when they relaunch, I’ll remember this.
Last week, another platform that I do rely on kicked off some users without warning them. The users hadn’t done anything problematic; it wasn’t that type of issue. This needless caused them to potentially lose access to their only copy of important information. While I would hope that they all had some type of backups, I know some didn’t.
I will hope that those users will learn from to keep copies under their own control of valuable. I hope you are already doing that.
It should be obvious that the “villain” company in our story will be remembered for at least as long as I remember that “hero” company and that while I am not including either name here, the whispers about the villainous misdeeds have already begun.
