The Question

Got a call from an old friend, we used to be real close, and it wasn’t a Billy Joel song.

After talking about his startup he asked about the family and whether we were vaccinated.

I don’t know his politics. I know his belief structure is “odd” in general.

I was worried. I don’t think that I have ever felt this worried before from being asked a question. It felt like Trump v Clint or Trump v Biden but much more fraught.

I felt like I might be at risk of losing a friend of 35 years, if I were to say, “Yes, gravity points downward.”

Until that call, I didn’t understand just how bad things had gotten. I literally shake when I think about it.

In his work within federal agency, he was often called, “the arbiter of truth,” facilitating historically hostile groups and factions to effectively work together towards common goals
